Perth Cultural Centre Precinct

Corian^® has been extensively used to clad/sculpt the walls, ceilings, skylights and bench tops within all of the public amenity areas. The complex faceted geometry enhances the play of light in the spaces and Corian^® was the ideal material for achieving a seamless connection between the wall, ceiling and skylight surfaces.

Nicknamed the ‘Louvre’ by the design team the project represents an excellent collaboration between the City of Perth, the Art Gallery of Western Australia and Coniglio Ainsworth Architects.

Corian^® was the ideal material for achieving a seamless connection between the complex faceted geometry of the wall, ceiling and skylight surfaces. It was also selected because it is a resilient product that is easy to clean and maintain in this highly public environment. According to the team at Coniglio Ainsworth Architects, “The faceted geometry of the wall, ceiling and skylight surfaces is intended to enhance the play of both natural and artificial lighting in the spaces and this was enhanced with the use of Cameo White Corian^®.”

Coniglio Ainsworth Architects saw a greater opportunity for the project than the initial upgrade brief suggested and have provided a sense of connection with the Cultural precinct beyond by careful sculpting of the views of the surrounding site and cleverly funnelling of natural light into the spaces. Another key feature is the inclusion of nine artworks which were selected from the Western Australian State Art collection and the City of Perth art collection with all images being generously provided courtesy of the artists or their estates.
